Private Apartment Block, 2006, Nicosia

Located in a very dense plot area in Strovolos the proposed project examines techniques for the creation of six 140m² apartments, to be occupied by a family consisting of six members.A solid block “carved” from the inside – out achieves the design of each apartment, providing multi-dimensional, special, programmatic and natural light qualities, while allowing views of the surrounding city.The concept of the design is perceived as one of a traditional Cypriot family house, re-position and re-configure in a contemporary, horizontal layout with the communal garden below and the rooms looking in.In the centre core of the” block” like building, an elliptical “tube”, filtering natural air and light into each apartment, leads to the secret garden below, viewed from all units. The proposed “tube”, allows optical and programmatic interaction between each user accordingly.
