Private Apartment/Roof Garden, 2016, Limassol
The project is based on the creation of a new Roof Garden located on the top level of a young creative couple’s apartment in the centre of Limassol.
The proposed design, maximizes the programmatic and spatial qualities of the existing apartment, providing for a new highly dynamic and flexible indoor – outdoor sheltered space.
The proposed space has the ability to reconfigure its context according to the use and timeframe chosen by the users.
The aerodynamic design of the external envelope allows constant air, to flow throughout, cooling down the space. The use of different material palette, in combination with the proposed plantation, generates different layers of transparency, providing shelter from the scorching summer Mediterranean sun and intense winter rain. The plantation is also used as a tool, filtering views of the surrounding urban city.
Underneath the sheltered space, the design of a multi-functional sculptural object with built-in bench/table, dynamically unfolds, revealing its programmatic qualities, interlocking indoor and outdoor space. The highly
flexible design of the ‘smart object’, that extends from a build-in bench to a comfortable seating ‘sofa’ to a dining table, allows for a playful and creative use of the roof garden.
The flexible design of the small indoor space provides for a conclusive self- sustained accommodation that reconfigures according to the chosen use of the outdoor space.
The overall design, enhances the multi-versatile urban views across the city and provides all the elements for an exciting lifestyle.
