Ilex Square – Park, 2011, Nicosia

Located in the recently developed dense area of Engomi, the proposed park - square, uses the existing topography, merging private and public, by introducing a centre core square accommodating small scale activities.
The location of the existing buildings is used as staring segments stretch and interviewed with the existing topography generating an elevated centre core that can be experienced by all surrounding buildings.
The proposal aims to challenge the pre-concept lifestyle of the area becoming a centre of interaction and inspiration for all locals and visitors.
Small scale theatre, water elements and art installations by artist Nicos Kouroussis is introduced to soften the sharp edges of the city providing a flowing effect both programmatically and spatially.
