Boundaries of War – Private Study/Analysis, 1998-1999, Buffer Zone Nicosia

As an ongoing investigation - analysis, the project examines and analyzes the existing conditions, systems of the last divided city, of Nicosia Cyprus.
After sensitive investigation, documentation and analysis on the existing political, economical, cultural, urban systems of the city of Nicosia the existing programme is re-configured and re-designed to adapt with the new proposed organization.
Having Ledra Palace within the buffer zone area, dividing north with south, monitored by the United Nations, the proposal uses the existing typology and topography of the two fragmented sectors of the city, north and south, unifying the two into one hybrid multi-layered terrain, re-animating and re-configuring its territorial boundaries after interaction between the two sites.
Existing and new programme is introduced, re-configured and transformed into fixed – temporary programmatic systems, hiding, revealing, and camouflaging accordingly.
